Dogs for men with disabilities:

The practice of using dogs for various purposes is as old a sthe human existence. From the time of World War I formal training of dogs as assistant to men with disabilities started. Initially dogs were trained to assist blind men.

These dogs were used to guide their visually impaired masters on road and protect them from men with dishonest motives. This training first started in Germany making German Shepherd the obvious choice as trainee breed. Plus the protective nature of this breed and loyalty to the master made them most suitable for this task. Their large, powerful physique was most effective to create fear in the mind of bad people.

Now, dogs are trained to help men with deafness and various other physical disabilities. Even dogs come to rescue of epileptic men. Some dog breeds like Italian Gray Hound is known for it’s ability to perceive an ensuing epileptic seizure of its master beforehand — truly a skill that can make difference between life and death for the master.

After all this when we hear some experts say that without the help of this friendly animal from the dawn of human civilization the face of our human society would have been very different from what it is today –it does not appear an overstatement.
