Am I ready to get a dog?

You love dogs and thinking of getting one. Specially after visiting your friend Amy’s house and seeing her pet you are serious. Now you are considering which breed you should go for that will suit your temperament and whether it should be male or female.

But before you go that deep, do a reality check to avoid frustration (for both you and your pet ) in future.

Do you have enough spare time?

Having a pet in your house will demand good amount of your time from your daily routine and you have to spend time for your dog every day without any exception. And if your profession requires you to go out of town frequently you have to make alternative arrangement for your dog’s care. So consider this aspect very carefully.

Do you have enough free space in your house?

You will require making a shelter for your dog and that will need extra space at your residence.

Do you have budget?

You require money to get a puppy of a good breed, but that hardly the end of it. Dog food, medicine, fees for Doc. all will put pressure on your budget if it is not properly planned before hand.

Do you have a good vet. in your town?

Other than the above you should also check the availability of a good Vet. In your town as you will need the help of an experienced vet. to take proper care of your dog’s health.

Is there anybody in your family who is opposed to your idea of getting a dog?

If there is anybody in your family who is opposed to your idea then discuss with him and communicate how important it is for you to get a canine friend. But if the opposition is because of reason like allergy to dogs then you may have to reconsider your plan.
